Picture the scene - the moonlight silhouetting as more than 500 hundred women walked together in white feather halos, laughing, joking and soaking up the atmosphere. No it’s wasn’t a dream that was the sight of the Ardgowan Angels taking part in the first ever Ardgowan Hospice Moonlight Walk!
The atmosphere was electric as the walkers descended on the Battery Park to register for what was to be one of the most spectacular nights on the Hospice calendar.
After collecting their goody bags full of treats, the ladies made their way to the Clyde 2 stage that was set up in the park, where Clyde DJ’s Bill Smith and Adrian Coll got the party started with some excellent music to get everyone in the mood. Staff from the Waterfront gym were also on hand to instruct the ladies in a warm up before the big countdown at 10:00pm.
Another treat was in store as fire engines from green watch entered into the spirit of the event with lights flashing and sirens whooping much to the delight of the crowd.
It was indeed a spectacle as the walkers started the route to the cheers of residents, onlookers and drivers showing their appreciation which continued to all the way back to the finish at the Battery Park Pavilion. Despite the slight chill in the air around 185 women completed the 10 mile option which was an incredible achievement with most of the walkers finishing before 2:00am.
A well deserved medal for all was issued on completion then the chance to finally take a load off at funworld who very kindly served complimentary hot drinks and rolls.
There has been an incredible £50,000.00 pledged from this event so far which is an extremely welcome boost to Hospice funds and will allow us to continue to provide specialist palliative care services to people affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
The Hospice has many people to thank for making this event possible but most of all we would like to sincerely thank all our walkers who made it to the finish line. The support will make genuine difference and we are extremely lucky to have such loyal supporters.
