Ardgowan Hospice

Ardgowan Hospice, based in Greenock, Inverclyde, was established in 1981 to enhance the lives of local people affected by cancer and other serious life limiting illnesses.

The Hospice cares for more than 500 individuals each year living in Greenock, Port Glasgow, Kilmacolm, Gourock, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay.
All services are free of charge.

The majority of care to patients, families and carers focuses upon symptom management, rehabilitation, respite admissions, psychological support and  care at the end of life.

What do we offer?

  1. 8 beds for In-Patient care
  2. Day Hospice facility for 12 people per day (Tuesday to Friday)
  3. Adult counselling and bereavement counselling service
  4. Regular out patient clinics by the Consultant in Palliative Medicine
  5. Lymphoedema clinic
  6. Home and hospital consultations
  7. Nurse specialist advisory service for people living at home
  8. Education service for health professionals, social care and care home staff
  9. Volunteer transport service for patients attending hospital appointments
  10. Information and education programmes for people with cancer from the time of their diagnosis
  11. Psychological support, stress management, relaxation, hypnotherapy, yoga, exercise programmes and Tai chi, available for patients and carers
  12. Individualised support for carers

People accessing our services can also benefit from art and crafts, hairdressing, music therapy, complementary therapies and practical advice for those who are experiencing hair loss.

How are we funded?

Most people are surprised to learn that our annual running costs are in excess of £2.4 million. We receive in the region of 40% of these costs from the local NHS and must therefore raise approximately £4,000 each and every day of the year through our own resources.

Who do we care for?

Individuals are cared for by Ardgowan Hospice when they are affected by any progressive disease such as advanced cancer, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, heart disease, respiratory disease and other life limiting illnesses.
