Spiritual Support

As part of the holistic approach employed by Ardgowan Hospice, the role of Spiritual Coordinator was created in 2006, encompassing all aspects of the spiritual dimension of care. In keeping with the ethos of the hospice the post includes participating as a member of the multidisciplinary team, assisting in the hospice education programme and also the traditional work of the chaplain.

Whilst the perception of the chaplaincy role will be of the pastor at the bedside, there is now an understanding that anyone involved with the Hospice is able to make use of the service, from in-patients to users of the Access unit through to staff, including volunteers.

Whilst the post is an ecumenical one, there is support from a team of honorary chaplains and this includes local clergy from a number of denominations. They are also involved with providing an act of worship, which is held each day during the week
