Counselling & Bereavement Support
A counselling and bereavement support service is provided to bereaved individuals and their families. Patients may use counselling for different reasons; they may be bereaved and are experiencing a complicated grief reaction, or are affected by a life limiting illness themselves. Patients can self refer or alternatively be referred through GP or Community Nurses. Counselling sessions usually last one hour and may continue over a period of several weeks or months depending on the need. Sometimes only one session is required.
Grief is individual and each of us reacts to it differently. You may have feelings of guilt, panic, anger, fear or of feeling overwhelmed; they are part of your grief. It may help to talk with someone. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you feel it would be helpful to talk with a professionally trained counsellor at the Hospice.
As one patient acknowledged: “Thank you for your kindness, just being there, understanding and listening to me. You have given me the strength to face life again and have helped me come to terms with certain issues. It can’t be an easy job you do but be assured it is much appreciated. I cannot thank you enough.”
