Community Nurse Specialists

Ardgowan Community Nurse
Specialists are a team of four specially trained nurses who manage the care
of patients and their families who are living with life limiting illness.
The team may become involved with patients at various stages throughout their illness, these include; time of diagnosis, recurrence and for terminal care.
An important aspect of the role is that the nurse specialist has time to spend with patients and families in their own home or care facility, listening and advising on various topics such as, treatments, symptom control, medication, home help services and financial assistance.
The team liaises closely with the local primary health care team, specifically general practitioners, district nursing service and social services. These nurses practice as specialists because they demonstrate the following skills/expertise; Education, leadership, managerial and research.
The team has recently changed its name from Macmillan Nurses to Ardgowan Community Nurse Specialists.
