Our Achievements & Initiatives

Ardgowan Hospice, although small, is an award-winning organisation. The Mallabar award was achieved in 2003 for innovation in UK nursing practice and more recently we were placed in the Nursing Times Top 100 places in the UK for nurses to work, being one of two Scottish finalists and the only Hospice in Scotland to be placed.

In the first Ardgowan Hospice Annual Report of 1986, a Hospice was described as a place providing support and care for the terminally ill, which also offers a helping hand to their families and friends.

Although much has changed during the intervening years and we are now investigating how to support people with other life threatening illnesses, the helping hands and care are still available for people going through a difficult time in their lives.

Another way in which we measure how well we are achieving our aims is by listening to what our patients and families have to say about us.  Here are just a few of those statements.

"When life returns to normal, we will endeavour to fundraise as
much as we can so other families can receive the same care
and attention we had."

"Just knowing I can drop in at any time makes each day easier.
I will never be alone in my illness and that is such a comfort."

"You are absolutely brilliant, both in the way you're looking after
my father and in your kindness to me.  Your thoughtfulness and
gentle care is tremendously helpful.  My father is in the best place
he could be.
