Dress to Impress! - New shop brings unique style to the Oakmall

Radio Clyde star Gina McKie gives seal of approval to charitable new venture

A new clothing boutique with a twist has opened its doors in the Oakmall bringing ethical, affordable and desirable fashion to Inverclyde.

The new Ardgowan Hospice shop stocks a mixture of high street and vintage pieces, as well as accessories, ornaments, gifts, books and jewellery.

All stock is donated by the local community and all profits are given to the Ardgowan Hospice, making this a green and ethically sound venture that benefits the whole of Inverclyde.

The shop celebrated its opening on August 9th when Radio Clyde DJ Gina McKie officially opened the shop at 12pm.

Gina commented; “Everyone loves a bargain and this shop gives Greenock the chance to buy unique and stylish clothes at a reasonable price while helping raise money for a great cause.”

The traditional model of the charity shop has been turned on its head in recent years, with retail legend Mary Portas making over shops for Save the Children and celebrities from Kate Moss to Fearne Cotton declaring their love for vintage clothing

Shop Supervisor Sarah Nottingham said; “This is a really exciting time for charity shops. People are tired of looking like carbon copies and want individual and unique fashion, the type of fashion that can only come from boutiques like this.“

“When you add in the benefits to the environment, and of course the fantastic boost in funds that this shop will give the Hospice, this shop is great news for Inverclyde.”

The shop will now house the Ardgowan Hospice Lottery, the hospice’s local lottery that generates monthly winners of £1000.

Anyone wishing to make donations to the shop are welcome to bring them into the shop in the Oakmall during hours of business and there is a back door entrance just off of King Street to the left, or to the Furniture Shop, Unit 1, Carnock Street, Greenock or phone 01475 892214 for an uplift.
