Inverclyde Globetrotters Team up with Ardgowan Hospice

 

On 25th May 2010, the Inverclyde Globetrotters, encouraged by messages of support from Olympic Champions Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pincent,

completed a virtual walk round the world in support of the cardiac rehabilitation team at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

 

During 117 weeks “on the road”, the Inverclyde Globetrotters covered 6,094 miles in the gym and clocked up 57,706,848 steps on their pedometers.

 

The group of around 20 people clocked up an amazing 30,688 miles by walking regularly and attending a weekly exercise class at Inverclyde Leisure’s Waterfront Gym as part of the Live Active Scheme run jointly by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Inverclyde Leisure.

 

Not content to rest on their laurels, the Globetrotters have just completed another virtual walk – 2,280 miles along the world famous Route 66 in America all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles as a warm-up for their next long haul trip – a trip to all capital cities in Europe – a mere 15,900 miles! 

 

The Globetrotters will start their European journey from the Waterfront next month and they will be using their walk to try and raise money for Ardgowan Hospice please click here to sponsor us now! To avoid feeling left behind, staff and volunteers have now decided to follow the Globetrotters’ route around Europe themselves to improve their fitness levels.
