Birthday Celebrations
Ardgowan Hospice certainly has cause for celebration this Easter as they will be marking the first birthday of their furniture and electrical store at Units 1 and 2 in Carnock Street, Greenock (behind the fire station and close to Morrisons). Last April saw the grand opening of the impressive 8,000 square foot store and the success of the venture has gone from strength to strength.
In the first year the store has generated a turnover of over £160,000, which is a magnificent effort and is a real testament to the very generous and loyal support we receive from the local Inverclyde population. Their donations of good quality furniture, electrical items and white goods in particular, have been extremely welcome and contributed greatly to this achievement.
The addition of this great asset enhances an already successful portfolio of shops in Gourock, Greenock, Port Glasgow and Kilmacolm, and we hope to be in a position to expand our retail operation further in the future.
The staff and volunteers based in the shop are all fully trained to assist customers in choosing and selecting items from the vast range on offer, and are happy to help arrange delivery of goods for a small charge depending on location.
Volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice as a whole and in particular in our shops. As such we are always looking to make additions in this area. If you are interested in volunteering please contact our Voluntary Services Manager on 01475 726830.
We are always looking to receive good quality items and offer a free uplift service to make donating as hassle free as possible. Uplifts can be arranged by contacting a member of the team on 01475 892214. Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 9:30am – 5:00pm.
Ardgowan Hospice provides a vital service to many in the Inverclyde community, and often acts as a lifeline at what can be a very distressing time. All of our specialist services are provided free of charge, however with daily running costs of £7,500, our existence relies heavily on grants, donations, fundraising events and income generated through our retail outlets.
Director of Income Generation, Derek Hart commented “I am absolutely delighted with the results of this new venture, in particular with the turnover in this its first year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff and volunteers for their hard work and also extend my gratitude to the residents of Inverclyde for their continued support.”
